Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 4: State President Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan and State President Kranti Dal, Pritam Sharma in a joint statement issued on Wednesday said that the State Government and Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council have metted out unfair treatment towards the deserving sportspersons by ignoring them.
Congratulating the Jammu and Kashmir Fencing Epee team for winning gold medal in Youth National Fencing Championship held at Nashik Maharashtra from March 29 to 31, 2018, they urged the Sports Council and State Government to spell out what more should they accomplish to get the reward from the State.
In epee team Pankaj Sharma of Jammu played very well innings throughout the championship with other team mates Teja Singh, Rajan Prashar and vishal. They won quarter-final match from Services team and semifinal from Kerala and final from Punjab team and received the gold medal.
They alleged that the State Government has been ignored State Epee team even after winning gold medal at national level. They said that players won gold medal with their dedication and hard work and without any financial support from Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
They said that Pankaj Sharma also got gold medal in Inter-collegiate Fencing Championship, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu and bronze medal in Junior National Fencing Championship at Billaspur in Chhattisgarh besides eleven national awards.
"Shockingly some known sportsmen of Jammu region who have earned popularity at national and international level, were ignored by the government," they said adding that this non-serious behaviour of State Government in favour of deserving players disappointed them.
"It's a tragedy and also a shame that deserving young players in Jammu and Kashmir have to run pillar to post just to get selection," they said. Many players in the State, despite having great potential, leave the sport for similar reasons, they said adding that politics, administrative bias contribute to the dismal state of sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
"All selections for national level were made on the directions of certain highly influential people and deserving players who were from poor background were totally ignored," they alleged adding that the reason behind that is selection of nears and dears by selection committee. They said the State Government is discriminating and not giving due recognition to gold medal winners sportspersons in the State.
They are concerned about the plight of sport players in the State and urged the government to look into these things and implement policies without discriminating sportspersons in terms of recognising their achievements. Asked what impact will this have on fencing sports, they said it will simply kill the aspirations of players who want to take up this sports. "If you do this (discrimination), you will be killing those aspirants who want to take up Fencing sports," they asked government.
