Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 20: The traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was suspended due to landslides, triggered by incessant rain since early Friday morning. "The traffic on the highway has been suspended due to landslides, triggered by rain, at Panthal and other places along the Kashmir highway," a traffic official said. He said Jammu-bound vehicles have been stranded at various places along the highway and efforts are underway to clear the road. "Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, has already pressed into service men and sophisticated machines to clear the road," he said. However, incessant rain is hampering the road opening operation, he added. On Friday, vehicles were plying from Srinagar to Jammu as only one way was allowed on the highway. Meanwhile, Minister for Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Floriculture, Javaid Mustafa Mir asked Divisional Commissioner Jammu Hemant Kumar to ensure that help and assistance should be provided to passengers, stranded due to closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and efforts should be made to reopen the Highway at the earliest. |
