| 20 kg poppy straw recovered, one inter-state narcotic smuggler held | | |

Udhampur, May 8: Police today claimed to have recovered 20 kg of poppy straw from one Punjab based smuggler at Jakheni, Udhampur.
Police spokesman said that based on a reliable information regarding smuggling of poppy straw, a police party of Udhampur police station led by Inspector, Sanjeev Gupta SHO Udhampur under the supervision of Kameshwar Puri, DySP Headquarters, Udhampur raised a naka at Jakhani on NHW and intercepted a gas tanker bearing registration Number PB10DE-9883. "During thorough search of the vehicle, 20 kg of poppy straw was recovered and the accused inter-state narcotic smuggler namely Chamkaur Singh of Patti Jagga, Punjab was arrested on the spot and poppy straw seized", said police spokesman adding that the vehicle used by the smuggler was also seized.
In this connection, a case under FIR No. 196/2018 under section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
