7 decades after independence, Udhampur villages remain unelectrified | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, May 8: Seven decades after independence, some villages in Udhampur district remain without electricity. Even the centrally sponsored Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yogna (PMGSY), Central Road Fund(CRF), NABARD and several state sponsored schemes have not changed the fate of these villages. These villages include around ten villages in Badhota and Galiote Panchayats in Panchari tehsil of District Udhampur inhabited by more than 5000 souls. The private company which was assigned to electrify these villages under first phase of RGGVY could not complete the work. The material is decaying with the concerned department. The union finance minister had assured to work in close coordination with the farmers to solve the problem in 2017. He had further said that it was a non-negotiable agenda for our government and Rs 4,843 crore had been allotted to electrify the rural areas under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in financial year 2017-18 but there is no implementation in our state so far. The locals said that despite having a sizeable population , successive governments had been ignoring the area. |
