Pak militants desperate to strike in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 9: With the security forces having intensified offensive against the militants as a part of the operation all out, the intelligence agencies have received inputs that Pakistan militants were desperate to make their presence felt in the summer capital of Srinagar. Sources said police and other agencies have credible inputs that a group of three to four Pakistani militants who have managed to infiltrate into the Valley, are trying hard to sneak into Srinagar to carry out a strike. Sources said the Raj Bhawan has conveyed to the police to be on vigil and that any lapse on the part of security grid would not be tolerated. Source said Pakistani militant Navee Jat who last year escaped from hospital killing two policemen has been tasked with the mission to execute a strike in the city as he is understood to have already done recce of the urban hub in the Valley. While the police have intensified patrol at entry points leading into the summer capital, militants continue to be desperate. "They (militants ) believe that terror attacks in other districts don't make much of news so to make news they want to sneak into the Valley with sinister motives," said a source in police. Sources said the police recently held a meeting at the Police Headquarter Hyderpora and sought better coordination with other agencies including paramilitary CRPF to thwart any possible militant strike. Sources said the south Srinagar highway where recently two explosions took place could be accessible to the militants. "Similarly there are some vulnerable points from Harwan and Ganderbal side," said a senior official. Sources said the night naka the entry points leading to the Srinagar may be extended for long hours. "Usually night naka is over by 11:00 PM but the same may need to be extended," said a police official. |
