Srinagar, July 9: What could be seen as changing colours of politicians, many PDP legislators who earlier had resigned from the party are now again showing interest in party politics. PDP MLA Abid Ansari last week announced at a public gathering that he would resign. The MLA Zadibal also claimed that 14 party legislators are mulling to leave the party. Among the 14 legislators, Abid claimed that Abdul Majeed Padroo, Mushtaq Shah, Haq Khan, Ashraf Mir, Noor Mohammad, Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Abdul Rahim Rather, Shahid Tantray, Chowdhary Qamar Ali, Javaid Beigh and Mohammad Abbas Wani, are also leaving the party. However, on Monday, Abid said he has not resigned yet. "If Mehbooba Mufti address our grievances, then I may meet her and won't leave the party," Abid said. In his speech, Abid was critical of PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. "They (PDP founders) brought their relatives in the government and assigned them top positions in the party, while sidelining the deserving ones. Sartaj Madni, Naeem Akhtar, and Peerzada Mansoor are taking all decisions. Even Mehbooba brought her brother into the cabinet," he had said. Another PDP MLA, Abdul Majeed Padroo, representing Noorabad constituency said last week that he had resigned too. "I have not resigned and will meet Mehbooba in the future," Padroo said. There are several other party leaders who too have been critical of PDP but now claim they have not resigned from the party Leading the revolt against Mehbooba, Imran Ansari, who was a minister in her government, called her "incompetent" and accused her of nepotism. Imran claimed that Mehbooba was giving least importance to party MLAs. "She used to listen to the advice of her relatives only who were in her inner coterie," he said. "Mehbooba's incompetence as a leader resulted in the failure of the government machinery," he had said. Imran, the former IT and Higher Education Minister has said, "PDP and the government had of late been reduced to a family opera where the brothers, the uncles, the aunties and other relatives would play protagonist, and to continue with such a party was not only useless but a humiliation too." Mehbooba Mufti has said that many of her relatives have been part of the party since its formation. "I came into politics in 1996. We formed PDP in 1999 when people were not ready to join the party. There are some of my relatives who joined the party then when many people were unwilling for," she responded to accusations by some of her party leaders that she brought her relatives into the party at top posts. Over induction of Tasaduq Mufti into the cabinet, she said, "When my father passed away, I felt alone. It was I who dragged Tasaduq into politics. He is one among the best cinematographers in the world and was not interested in politics. He understands the pain of Kashmir. It was my mistake to bring him into politics as I got emotional after my father left." |
