Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 30: The only road connecting Kishtwar with rest of the state has been snapped due to massive landslide at Drabshala as a result of which the people including Machail Yatries traveling to and fro from Kishtwar District are facing lot of problems. The traffic has been suspended on this important artery from last more than 16 hours.
As per the details available with ET, several passengers travelling on Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway were stranded near Drabshalla after a massive land slide near Kulgadi blocked the Kishtwar-Thatri stretch of Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway as a result of which the people travelling on this road had to travel around 3-5 KM through the risky terrain to reach on other side of the road.
The eyewitness told ET that the work at the landslide affected area is going on at slow pace due to fresh shooting stones at the landslide area. Sources added that majority of the portion of the road had been damaged due to heavy landslide.
The people informed Early Times that the said landslide area has become the matter of concern for the local people particularly the students and the office goers who use this road frequently o reach their destinations.
They said that government had announcement handing over the road to some company for its upkeep but nothing was done on ground.
National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation of India which has been awarded the contract worth Rs. 95 cr for maintaining the 110 KM stretch of Batote-Kishtwar National Highway has this time again failed to put man and machinery into services for clearing the landslide.
Meanwhile keeping in view of the presence of heavy rock boulders, Kishtwar police has asked the Machail Yatries coming from Jammu to avoid the journey till the road was made traffic worthy.
