BSF man Killed, head constable injured in cross border firing at Akhnoor sector | | |
Jammu: A BSF jawan of Gomia block in Bokaro district Killed on Wednesday morning as Pakistani Rangers targeted Indian posts along the International Border (IB) in Jammu & Kashmir with mortars and bullets.
The heavy firing and mortar shelling from across the border in Pragwal area of Akhnoor and nearby Kanachak and Khour sectors also left few persons, including a policeman and a woman injured, and forced people to abandon their homes and rush for safer places.
“Pakistan side resorted to unprovoked firing by targeting forward duty points at International Border (IB) in Pragwal around 6 AM, causing critical injuries to Braj Kumar head constable,” said a family member quoting BSF sources.
BSF’s head constable Braj Kumar son of late Jamuna Tiwari, who was injured in cross-border firing by Pakistan in Akhnoor, succumbed to his injuries.
Sources said, Braj Kumar, the injured Hawildar was evacuated to medical facilities but succumbed to his injuries.
The firing from across the border in violation of the ceasefire agreement prompted a strong and effective retaliation by the BSF, the source said adding cross-border firing spread to Kanachak and Khour areas as well and was going on when last reports came in.
According to reports of Kumar, who belonged to Gomia IEL colony in Bokaro district and joined BSF in 1993. He is survived by daughter Prasita Kumari (17) and son Pranav (7) along with his wife.
The mortal remains of the BSF hawildar will reach Ranchi on Thursday and will be entrusted to his family members for cremation with State honours. |
