Chhatral Villagers rue official apathy, No potable water for several months

MendhEr, Aug 31: Villagers of Chhatral Mohalla Bassa in Sub Division Mendhar have rued official apathy as there has been no potable water supply to the area since long while people have to walk more than two kilometers daily to fetch the water for drinking purposes said here today
Mohall Bassa in Village Chhatral Consists of about 150 house holds who have to go everyday to walk more than 2 kilometers for one side to fetch drinking water for their families giving a tough time to them due to official apathy who have turned a nelson eye towards the grave issue sources said.
Locals alleged that the water handpump has been not working in the area. We requested Ground Water Department of Poonch for restoration to defunct water pump, they paid no heed to our pleas, they added.
There have been number of handpumps in Mendhar Sub division which were not working yet the department concerned shows laxity in solving the problems they further added.
Meanwhile social activists of the area Advocate Tanveer Qureshi urged the Ground Water Department Poonch and PHE Deptt Jammu to take the cognizance of the matter and repair the defunct water pumps to provide the drinking water to poor villagers who have to scale a long distance to fetch potable water for their families on daily basis which was an uphill task he added.
