"Save Rights Conference held | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 10: State Unit of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations organised "Save Rights Conference" today here at Kashmir University, Srinagar which was attended by about 3000 people from all regions of the state. The function also commemorated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Baba Sahib Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. All sections of society viz. farmers, employees, unemployed youth, and students ensured their participation in the conference for protection of their constitutional rights. State President of the Confederation R.K. Kalsotra presided over the function. R.K. Kalsotra in his address stated that some sections of the society are trying their level best to make changes in the constitution drafted by Baba Sahib Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and to restore the Varna System in the present setup which is totally unacceptable and the Confederation will fight tirelessly to protect the Constitution which ensures rights to the downtrodden and depressed section of the society. Kalsotra apprised the gathering that the Confederation will "Educate, Organise and Agitate" all and will not allow any alteration in the constitution at any cost. He further added that the Confederation is in favour of Article 370 and Article 35A as these are additional incentives to the depressed, poor and downtrodden classes of the society in our state and it is very unfortunate that the successive governments in the state have failed to utilise these additional incentives for the upliftment of the depressed and downtrodden in the state which has led to erosion of the rights granted to the depressed classes such as discontinuation of reservation in promotion, Creation of Backlog , No funding in SC/ST Plan, No timely scholarship for poor reserved category students. There has been no development of SC/ST/OBC's, Minorities, handicapped, Wattal, Mochi, Balmiki and other downtrodden classes. As a result of this, 85% of the population of the state is under-privileged. Kalsotra reiterated that the successive governments have failed to protect the constitutional rights of the reserved classes and these sections of society have pinned high hopes on the new Governor. |
