Children stage protest against SWD | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 18: Children between age group of 10-15 years today held protest demonstration and blocked the busiest road near district police lines alleging that the officials of Social Welfare Department officials had refused to accept their applications for grant of scholarship. They alleged that September 15 was the last date for the submission of the scholarship forms but nobody at DSWO office accepted the forms and directed them to submit in the office of the project officer ICDS which is far away from DSWO office. Police used mild lathi charge against the children to clear the busiest road at district HQ. The disbursed protesters later headed to Deputy Commissioner Office but reportedly no senior district officer was available to talk to them. As per information district administration had rescued these children under drive against child labour and instead of rehabilitating them, they were left unattended and were not informed about the scholarship/ last date. "Lathi charge by police on these hapless children is human right violation and these children must be looked after properly" said Omar Mir, spokesman J&K Scene Watch , NGO. Children rescued in Rajouri town were provided adequate accommodation and were being counselled by officials of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and were promised other help also. |
