Prof Gupta hails Governor's decision of holding ULB, Panchayat elections
9/19/2018 9:56:57 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 19: The Former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has welcomed the decision of the Governor's administration to hold the long pending elections to the basic democracies in the troubled State of J&K to empower the people at grass root level. He stressed for extra vigil but for enemy designs coupled with poll boycott moves by the dubious characters changing their antics, especially when being out of power.
Talking to a group of village activists, Prof. Gupta said that the politicians of the family controlled bodies had been contesting elections of the Parliament and that of the State legislature to enjoy the powers for long years but they never bothered to hold the elections to the basic democracies at their scheduled time, not to say of empowering these by extending the 73rd and 74th amendments of the Indian Constitution even after their promises in and outside the legislature. But this folly of erstwhile rulers had caused a loss of thousands of crores of rupees central grants which are linked with elected democracies, he added. He alleged that their changing colours and policies had also contributed to the woes of the masses who are being treated as their hostages by the subversives and ultras. Prof. Gupta asked the Congress leadership to come out clearly that whether they support the poll boycott call or with the democratic process to empower the people who were deprived of their rights and developmental works at grass root level.
