#MeToo reaches Kashmir: Delhi women name Kashmir journos | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 8: Nationwide social media campaign on sexual harassment of women, #MeToo, has reached Kashmir with victims naming some Kashmiri journalists. In the last few days, atleast three journalists working in New Delhi have taken to social media to expose how they were sexually harassed by three Kashmiri journalists. Two of the women journalists have even "named and shamed" two Kashmiri journalists for having sexually harassed them. One of the accused runs a news portal and is already under police scanner for his trip to England while the other one is a photo journalist. The women have exposed them both. "F***d S***h (name withheld) is my molester too. I have kept quiet for long, but now is the time to tell my story. S**h, who was also my former partner, last year molested both me and my friend at a gathering," a journalist wrote on her Facebook wall. He post was shared by leading journalists. "He touched me inappropriately several times at that party. When I told him that his action was not apt and that what we had was in the past, S**h very conveniently said "C'mon, we have been there. You cannot say that you don't like it." The journalist went on to add that "I was shocked and asked him to back-off. But S**h is not a person who takes a no for an answer, he believes consent is permanent. He tried to force himself upon me while muttering things like 'Do I not turn you on anymore?' At this moment he was pushed back." "But," the woman journalist said "instead of stopping here, he then went to another room and made a pass at my friend (name withheld) sitting there. He even locked himself with her in a washroom." The victim said "This guy got away the next day by saying 'I was drunk'. "His friends who were there in the same house, including a Kashmiri photojournalist (name withheld), said not a single word to stop him. He tried to normalise the entire incident. He also came to my home next day with an intent to pacify the entire situation, saying 'Chalo ho gaya, forget that.'" The photo journalist had told "my friend not to file an FIR in this case and convince (name withheld) not to do the same, because if this comes out 'it will bring shame' to them." "The same guy (photojournalist name withheld), few weeks before all this, wanted to take our friendship to new heights. When I rejected his pass, he very shamelessly told me that he liked me and 'Dosti jab itni achhi ho to naye mukaam haasil karne hote hain.'" The victim said "I have lived the horror again and again in the last one year. I had wonderful friends who believed and stood by me, also people who told me to forget and move on. While the offender walks scot-free, my life was made hell in months following the incident." She concluded her post saying "We were also called morally-corrupt, character-less, politically sold Delhi girls who intentionally tried to shame him for being a "liberal" Kashmiri journalist. This had been weighing on my conscience forever, I thank all the friends who encouraged me to come out about it. In Solidarity #MeToo." Despite repeated attempts the accused couldnt be contacted for comments. |
