Oil Tankers Assosciation calls for Indefinite strike | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 16: Oil Tankers association has called for indefinite strike in the state of Jammu and Kashmir since Monday evening stopping oil supply in entire state of J&K. While talking to our reporter, advisor Oil Tankers association, J&K said, " We are facing grave issues with related to our movement on National Highway leading to Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, added that the traffic system is completely defunct in this state and the department is not able to regulate the traffic management on highway in proper order." He added, "Our tankers ideally should reach Srinagar in 12 -18 hours, however the highhandedness of the traffic department stops the oil tankers every now and then on highway resulting in delay of at least 24 -48 hours. Traffic department had scheduled time for movement Oil tanker convoy on highway till 2 pm on daily basis about a month back when we first reported the issue to administration, however the department with frivolous reasons flaunts the schedule set up by them which leads to undue harassment of oil tankers on highway, adding, " We are facing a situation where many drivers have left the Oil filled tankers on highway and came back to Jammu." Advisor of the Oil tankers association claims the union has met the Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma apprising him of all the issues faced by the Oil Tankers on National Highway; however no firm assurances could be sought from him. Our association has also met IG Traffic Basant Rath who advised them to meet SSP Traffic and resolve this issue which the association duly followed but to no avail. The situation is grim and the Oil Tankers association has decided to stop loading their tankers and consequently the oil supply to entire state stands affected. The association is staging protest outside all oil distribution plants in Jammu and claims the strike will continue till the harassment and miss management of traffic and schedule is not followed in proper order by the department. Divisional Commissi-oner, Jammu could not be reached for his comments, however, our reporters were able to get in touch with Additional Commissioner Rahul Sharma who claimed that Divisional Commissioner is on tour but the issue will be resolved soon. Situation on ground is under control but might turn grave sooner considering the pumps have started drying up and festival season around, shortage of fuel will lead to a chaotic situation in state. |
