Udhampur, Nov 20: Heavy polling was witnessed here today in different blocks of district Udhampur in the second phase of the panchayat polls. The polling, according to reports, was brisk in Jaganoo, Sewna ,Tikri, Narsoo. Elderly people, youth and women came out in large numbers to exercise their frenchise. Gaytri Devi, 85, cast her vote with a smile on her wrinkled face. Ninety-five year-old Mangu Ram was equally enthusiastic as he cast his vote in Thanoa. Arushi, 21, did it for the first time and felt proud. Supported by a walker, Gaytri Devi reached the polling station to cast her vote. Similarly, Rashpal, 28, took a leave from the shop he works in as a salesman in Jammu to ensure his participation in the polling process. He said that all should cast their votes to the right candidate else there will be no justification for saying that a particular candidate is not good or has failed. Kuldeep Kumar-a physically challenged youth came on a wheel chair to cast his vote at polling station in Middle School Sundrani at Tikri here. There was a tight security cover to ensure peaceful elections. The Panchayat elections are organized on non-party basis and the polling was over by 2:00 pm and results will also be announced today itself. |
