Jhiri Mela to commence on Nov 22 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 20: The Jhiri Mela which is celebrated every year in Jammu will be commenced from November 22 at Jhiri village near Shamachak on Kartik Purnima to commemorate the Dogra folk hero Baba Jitto. Addressing a press conference, Dinesh Manhas, a social activist of Marh constituency appealed the people of Jammu and Kashmir to visit the historic Jhiri Mela in large numbers. Manhas said that this year various arrangements have been put in place well before time by different departments for Jhiri Mela. Different departments are going to install stalls of their department to create awareness about the various government schemes among the devotees visiting the fair and local people. He added, "Besides various cultural programmes during the fair, departments will highlight the folk culture of the state to make it more alluring for the pilgrims and tourists who will visit the mela". He further said that merry go rounds, giant wheels, death well, circus, wrestling sweet stalls, and other stalls will add charm to the mela which will enthrall the audience and adds to the vibrancy and colorfulness of the atmosphere and reaching of more and more visitors will not encourage the stall owners but will help in promoting tourism. |
