Reasi, Nov 20: An environmental awareness event was organized by Reasi Campus, University of Jammu at Reasi. The objective of the programme was to develop awareness about the necessity, care and protection of the environment for better and healthy living. Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Director, Reasi Campus was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof. Abrol while addressing the students and staff stressed upon maintaining the clean and green environment around the Campus. He said as per the initiative of the Government of India and the commitment of the University of Jammu for the promotion of healthy and green environment, it is very essential that students get engaged in along with their academics for the promotion, growth and maintenance of plants, trees around the Campus as part of their social responsibility in Nation building and to assist in combating the global environmental challenges. He further informed that the J&K state has only 30% of the forest area with insignificant increase of 0.04% for the last few years. He stressed that this is the high time that youth of the society take up the challenge of planting and caring the environment, thereby reducing the pollution, energy cost, diseases and improving the appearance. Prof. Abrol further stated that a special committee Coordinated by Dr. Nisha Sharma and Ashwani Kumar, both faculty members of the Campus along with students from all the semesters has been constituted for taking environmental related initiatives at the campus. On the occasion, the students and the teaching faculty of the campus under the guidance of the Director, Reasi campus planted different plants of medicinal and ornamental values like Neem, Amla, jamun, Imli, Bottle Brush, Marigold, Raat Ki Rani and others in the Campus. All the students of the different semesters, faculty members namely Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Sharma, Manoj Kumar, Narayan Singh and the office staff of the Campus were present on the occasion. |
