Modi calls for cooperation from G-20 nations to deal with economic offenders | | | Perturbed by Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi, who committed a big fraud by taking loans after loan worth 1.8 billion dollar from Panjab National Bank..There are a number of economic offenders from India who have been able to secure shelter in foreign countries. In this connection India has presented a nine-point agenda to G-20 countries, calling for "strong and active cooperation" among them to comprehensively deal with fugitive economic offenders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the agenda in the second session of the G20 Summit on international trade, financial and tax systems ..Cooperation in legal processes such as effective freezing of the proceeds of crime, early return of the offenders and efficient repatriation of the proceeds of crime should be enhanced and streamlined, the agenda said.India also called for joint efforts by G-20 countries to form a mechanism that denies entry and safe havens to fugitive economic offenders. "Principles of United Nations Convention Against Corruption, United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organised Crime, especially related to 'International Cooperation' should be fully and effectively implemented," it said. India suggested that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) should be called upon to assign priority and focus to establishing international cooperation that leads to timely exchange of information between the authorities and financial intelligence unitsDespite repeated efforts on the part of New Delhi to some of the countries for repatriation of the economic offenders but where the Indian economic offenders have found a safe shelter these countries have not listened to India's pleas. That should be the reason for Modi to suggest a nine-point agenda to G-20 countries. In this connection Modi announced that the another summit of the G-20 heads of states would be hosted in India marking the 75th anniversary of India's independence. It is hoped that G-20 countries may agree to Modi's suggestion because economic offenders from any of the G-20 countries could take shalter in India if those countries that adhere by the principle of G-20 do not listen to Modi's views Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India would host the annual G-20 summit in 2022, coinciding with the country's 75th anniversary of Independence.Modi made the announcement at the closing ceremony of the two-day G-20 Summit here Saturday. He thanked Italy for allowing India to play the host. Italy was to host the international forum in 2022."In 2022 India completes 75 years since Independence. In that special year, India looks forward to welcoming the world to the G-20 Summit! Come to India, the world's fastest growing large economy! Know India's rich history and diversity, and experience the warm Indian hospitality," Modi tweeted after making the announcement. The G-20 is a grouping of the world's 20 major economiesSince in 2019 Lok Sabha poll is due it is to be seen whether Modi's dream of hosting G-20 summikt materializes.Yes,it depends on his returning to power. |
