NC is opposed to sharing power with any other party | | | Six days are left for the Governor's rule and if the Governor's rule is to be replaced by President's rule it indicates that the centre is averse to the demand of Farooq Abdullah for holding the Assembly election as early as possible. Hitherto the National Conference has formed a coalition Government with the Congress and the Congress tried a coalition with the PDP. Whether the NC Congress coalition or the PDP-Congress coalition Government both the experiments proved successful. Now that the National Conference is sure of its success in the ensuing Assembly election it does not find any scope for forging a pre-poll alliance. And this has been confirmed by none other than the party President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, who has some scare about the formation of a coalition Government saying that running a coalition Government was like walking on crutches. The National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has announced that his party would go it alone in the next Assembly elections and would not have any pre-poll alliance. Running a coalition government is like walking with crutches, when you can't work for the betterment of people. The National Conference will have to fight the upcoming elections on its strength and will not join hands with anybody. Our party men should be ready for this. I ask you to give us full mandate so that we are be able to perform and deliver like how I did between 1996 and 2002 when the NC had a full majority," says Farooq. He has seen how difficult it is to run a coalition government. It was Atal Bihari Vajpayee who took along 23 parties at the Centre to run a coalition government. However, he said, that for the Lok Sabha elections the NC and other parties were coming together to save the country and the Constitution. "We are trying to come together for the betterment of the nation. To save the nation and the Constitution, parties will have to come together and form the government at the Centre and give a strong Prime Minister. While the ULB abd Panchayat elections were announced Dr Farooq Abdullah announced that he would neither contest the Assembly nor the Lok Sabha elections. Finding that the grass is green for the National Conference Farooq Abdullah feels the need for regaining power but fighting for the Lok Sabha he may opt for a grand alliance. He is not prepared to share power with any other party. Yes, he is opposed to the formation of a pre-poll alliance and in case the National Conference may not get absolute majority in the Assembly he may seek support from the Congress. One thing is sure he is not prepared to seek support from the PDP because the PDP has shown its true colours by joining hands with the BJP for the formation of the Government in Jammu and Kashmir. And in case the Congress does well the NC has to seek its support for the formation of a coalition Government and for this the Congress needs not less than 15 to 20 seats. In fact the NC president has written off the BJP because of its poor performance by its ministers during the coalition rule with the PDP. He seems to predict a miserable plight of the PDP in the ensuing Assembly elections. First of all the centre should convince the Governor to declare acceptance of the demand of Dr Farooq Abdullah for holding early Assembly election. |
