India-UAE ties strengthened
1/8/2019 8:48:04 PM
R.B. Suri
The UAE is comprising of seven states named as Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Shargal, Umualquwan, Fujairah, Rasal Khaimah and Abu Dhabhi. The Sheikh of Abu Dhabhi is not so moderate as the Sheikh of Dubai is? The Royal Sheikh of Abu Dhabi is conservative in the sense as he has not initiated the steps for entering into an era of tourism so far in comparison to the Royal Sheikh of Dubai who has developed his "Saltnat of Dubai" marvellously and has attained the new heights in the field of tourism. The Royal Sheikh of Abu Dhabi should have to rise to the occasion in putting Abu Dhabi on the tourism rails thereby adjusting with the fast changing World.
In the coming days of this World of new technologies, Abu Dhabi will have to acclimatize itself with the fast changing scenario as the Auto industry (mostly dependent on Petrol and Deisel ) is switching over to the power energy instead of petrol and diesel.
According to the experts, Saudi Arabia will be able to cater to the needs of the petrol and diesel for another 20 years or so and whereas Abu Dhabi will be catering to the needs for another century which is a good feature indeed but in any case, it will have to take the required steps for the promotion of tourism, trade and commerce apart from petrol and diesel etc. etc.
The readers of this esteemed paper are being apprised that two years back, the Prime Minister of India Narender Modi had visited the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abu Dhabhi.
Modi, who arrived in Abu Dhabi from Jordan on the second leg of his three-nation tour, was received by Mohammed Bin Zayed and other members of the Royal family at the airport. The two leaders hugged each other and exchanged pleasantries. The Prime Minister Modi thanked the Crown Prince for the special gesture of receiving him at the airport and expressed that his visit to UAE would definitely have a positive impact on India-UAE ties.
During his visit to UAE, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the wide-ranging talks with Crown Prince Zayed Al Nahyan and the two sides signed five agreements including a historic pact awarding a consortium of Indian oil companies a 10% stake in offshore oil concession. After their talks, the two sides signed five agreements related to energy sector, railways, manpower and financial services. An MOU between Indian Consortium (OVL, BPRL & IOCL) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was signed for the acquisition of a 10% participating interest in the Abu Dhabi's offshore Lower Zakum Concession.
The concession will be for 40 years from 2018 to 2057. 60% of the participating interest will be retained by ADNOC and remaining 30% will be awarded to other international oil companies, the statement said. According to the economic experts, this was the first Indian Investment in upstream oil sector of UAE, transforming the traditional buyer-seller relationship to a long-term investor relationship. To cooperate in the field of manpower, India and the UAE signed an MoU that aims to institutionalise the collaborative administration of contractual employment of Indian workers in the Gulf country. Under the MoU, both the sides agreed to work to integrate their labour related e-platforms for ending the existing malpractices, combat trafficking and organise collaborative programs for education and awareness of contractual workers. An MoU for technical cooperation in railways was also signed between the two sides. The MoU aimed at cooperation in infrastructure sector especially railways. The MoU was aimed at facilitating the development of joint projects, knowledge sharing, joint research and technology transfer. The MoU envisaged formation of a Joint Working Group for institutionalising the cooperation mechanism. To deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of finance, an MoU between Bombay Stock Exchange and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange was also signed. It aimed at enhancing cooperation between both the countries in financial services industry. The MoU would facilitate investment in financial markets by investors from both the countries. On the arrival of PM Modi, various buildings in Abu Dhabi were lit in the Indian tricolour as the city was decked up to welcome Prime Minister Modi, who also attended a state banquet hosted by theAbu Dhabi Crown Prince.
The Prime Minister Modi visited Wahat Al Karama, the UAE martyr's war memorial in Abu Dhabi before travelling to Dubai where he had interacted with the Indian community at an event at the Dubai Opera House and witnessed the ground breaking ceremony of the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi. Prime Minister Modi also delivered a keynote address at the World Government Summit in Dubai where India was the guest of honour that year.
While returning back to India, PM Modi invited Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed to India for his participation in the 68th Republic Day Parade celebrations at New Delhi. On arriving India Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed hailed India as a linchpin of security in Asia and a major partner in the global efforts towards stability, development and the battle against terrorism.Sheikh Mohammed became the Chief Guest at the 68th Republic Day Parade celebrations at New Delhi during his landmark three-day visit. The honour was previously given to Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.It was the Crown Prince's second visit to India in less than a year.
Pertinent to mention here that PM Modi had made the historic visit to the UAE in August 2015, when the countries agreed to strengthen ties in areas such as trade and investment, security and counter-terrorism. UAE-India relations enjoy a deep history that extends to hundreds of years before the founding of the UAE in 1971. Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father, visited India in 1975, paving the way for relations between the countries. For centuries, the countries have shared cultural ties linking together the peoples of India and the GCC. Sheikh Mohammed stated that the Indian expatriate community had made a massive contribution to the UAE's development and expressed his thanks to India for its contributions to UAE. PM Modi welcomed Sheikh Mohammed by saying that India was honoured to host him.
An MoU between Government of Jammu and Kashmir and DP World was also signed to establish multi-modal logistics park and hub in Jammu comprising warehouses and specialized storage solutions.
More than two years have passed, due to the political instability in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, there are no concrete results on this score. Presently J&K is under the President Rule, it becomes obligatory on the part of the Governor to make a headway in this direction thereby imparting the strict instructions to his Administration. This is such an important agreement which can yield the positive results in forming the state of Jammu and Kashmir as a self sufficient state particularly in the Industrial and Infrastructure development as also for the opening of the employment avenues for the skilled and unskilled youth of the state. Therefore, the issue in question, should not be sidelined. This particular MoU would be highly fruitful for the state of Jammu and Kashmir because of which the trade and industry would get the boost immediately resulting which the unemployed youth ( skilled and Unskilled)will get the ample opportunities for their employment.
Really, the ties between Indian government led by the PM Modi and the Royal Prince of Abu Dhabi have been strengthened and the bonds of friendship between the two nations would lead to the prosperity of their subjects ultimately. Let's hope for the best.
