State tax team raids defaulters | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Kishtwar, Jan 17: A team of State Tax department headed by Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, Additional Commis-sioner State Taxes Enforce-ment and Administration Jammu today conducted surprise inspections and raids at various places in Kishtwar town and found several lapses on part of the businessmen and shopkeepers with regard to maintaining of GST records including purchase bills and bills issued to the costumers. Speaking to ET, Shahid Saleem said that the objective of the visit was to make people aware about the implementation of "GST". He said that during the course of the day, they checked various shops and business establishment and deliberate tax evasion by the businessmen and accordingly the shops/records were seized for violating the rules and regulations. He said that in majority of the cases, the traders maintained the GST bills, but in certain cases we found the lacunae. Shahid Saleem said that the costumers should ensure that they took proper bills from the shopkeepers so that the taxes paid by the people reached up to government. All the business establishments inspected were exhorted to implement the GST laws in letter and spirit to avoid initiation of penalty proceedings against them. The team comprised 6 state tax officers namely Mohammed Ashfaq, Javaid, Neeraj, Arvind, Mohit, Riyaz and inspectors and sub inspectors of the department. |
