Harsh Dev walks out of CEO meet in protest | Alleges politicization of bureaucracy | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 18: Accusing a few civil and police officers of bias, the chairman of Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) Harsh Dev Singh staged a walkout in protest from the meeting of recognized political parties in the State on various issues related to the electoral process, especially on Special Summary Revision and updation of Electoral Rolls. The meeting was convened here today by the Chief electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Shailendra Kumar. Harsh Dev Singh hurled the allegation of biasness while making an appeal to the CEO to ensure free and fair election for the larger interest of the state. A visibly agitated Harsh Dev Singh leveled serious allegations of partiality on some officers, who he alleged are working on the dictates of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP). "Some officers who were bestowed with prize postings during the erstwhile PDP-BJP rule are still occupying those chairs and are openly working in favour of either the BJP or the PDP," alleged Singh. "Such officers are sort of openly campaigning for the BJP and PDP while they are indulging in harassing and intimidating the activists of other political parties including that of the JKNPP," he added. Singh said that he told the CEO in clear terms that the display of favouritism is quite visible in district Udhampur which is a stronghold of the Panthers Party and these officers are specifically sent there with the sole purpose of oppressing workers of his party. "How can free and fair elections be held as long as such prejudiced officers are at the helm of officers? We had written in this regard to the Chief Election Commissioner of India and CEO, J&K as well. The Election Commission of India responded to our plea and conveyed that the process has been initiated against the erring officials but so far nothing has been done as such officers are still serving there," said Singh. During his protest, Singh explicitly mentioned the names of a particular Deputy Commissioner and two senior police officers. "My concerns must be conveyed to the ECI and I lodge my protest on this count while I am staging a walk out of this meeting," said Singh. He cautioned the administration against backing politically biased officers, saying it would harm the state. Sources informed that after Harsh Dev left the meeting, the CEO assured the participants that no biased officers will be allowed to keep their postings. Only those officers who are neutral will continue to officiate so that the purpose of holding free and fair elections is fulfilled. |
