Early Times Report Ramban, Jan 21: Continuing its war against the menace of drugs, Ramban Police today recovered a huge quantity of psychotropic substance (poppy straw) from a Punjab based truck at T- Chowk Banihal. Police spokesman said that acting on a specific information regarding smuggling of Poppy Straw, a special naka was raised at T- Chowk Banihal. "During checking of vehicles, a truck bearing registration number PB02BV-7665 was signalled to stop and put to thorough search", said spokesman in the process of search, a specially fabricated chamber was detected in the toolbox of the vehicle inside which 25 bags filled with poppy straw got recovered. In this regard a case under FIR No 8 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Banihal police station and investigation taken up. "During preliminary investigation, the driver revealed his identity as Mangal Ram of Gorsianilal, Tehsil Phillour, Distt Jalandhar", said spokesman adding that as per him, the consignment was meant to be delivered at Jalandhar to a local conduit for further sale to the youth. Further investigation into the case is in process to ascertain the involvement of others in the crime. The whole operation was led by Inspector Aijaz Ahmed Wani-SHO Banihal under the supervision of DySP Sajjad Sarwar-SDPO Banihal, Sanjay Parihar-Addl SP Ramban and overall supervision of SSP Ramban- Anita Sharma. |
