Srinagar, Feb 7: Jammu and Kashmir Police today evacuated around 22 families from an avalanche-prone area to a safer place following heavy snowfall in Kangan, Ganderbal. According to local media reports, an avalanche hit the north portal of the Jawahar Tunnel, towards Valley side, blocking one of the tubes. Efforts are on to clear the same. In the state, snowfall started on Wednesday morning.
In upper areas, heavy snowfall continued till late night all across the valley. However, according to the IMD officials, the weather in the valley was likely to improve from Friday Morning. |
