Panchayat polls meaningless without BDC & DDPB polls: MPEJ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 8: Ram Singh Chauhan & Kuldeep Kumar Rao, the active members of Movement for Peace, Equality & Justice, in a press release issued here have appealed the Governor of J&K State, Satya Pal Malik for conduct of Block Development Council (BDC) & District Development & Planning Board (DDPB) polls before Lok Sabha & Assembly election in J&K. They further said & added that before Panchayat election about two & half months ago, the Governor of the state had promised to conduct BDC & DDPB election soon after Panchayat elections but after lapses of two & half month no election to BDC & DDPB has been held yet. It will be a great disrespect & dishonor to the mandate of electorate if the Governor's administrations backtrack from its commitment of empowering PRIs by holding BDC & DDPB election in the state before Lok Sabha & Assembly elections. They also asserted for suitable amendments in the State Panchyati Raj Act, removing ban on the nomination to the office of Chairman Block Development Council from only Panches or Sarpanches of the block. They strongly hailed the step of former Governor N. N. Vohra for making amendment in the state Panchayati Raj Act thereby directly electing the Sarpanch and thus strengthening the basic unit of democracy. Rao appealed the present Governor to make a history by constituting the Block Development Council & District Planning & Development Boards in the state which has never been done in the state for last 70 years due to vested interests of our MLA's/the law makers who did so for fear of getting irrelevant and politically un-employed. |
