Holding tricolour, Kargil residents protest against creating division at Leh | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 11: Scores of Kargil residents took to streets in Jammu protesting against Leh being made the permanent head quarters of the newly created Ladakh division. The protesters refused to be part of the newly created division unless there is six-month rotation of offices between Leh and Kargil. On Friday the decision was made that J&K would now comprise three divisions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The new division includes Leh and Kargil districts with headquarters at Leh. The government approved creation of the posts of Divisional Commissioner (Ladakh) and Inspector General of Police (Ladakh). Holding tricolour and banner in their hand, people from all walk of life took part in the protest demanding equal rights for the resident of Kargil. Urging the Governor Satya Pal Malik to review his decision, the participants were seen chanting slogans throughout the rally, pledging support to the united movement in support of the genuine rights of the people of Kargil. One of the protestor said that the order on Divisional status to Ladakh has united all the stake holders of Kargil for the first time and they would not stop till decision on the Headquarter is reviewed. The Division headquarters should be on rotational basis at Kargil for six month of summer and at Leh for six months of winter. He added that it is injustice for the people of Kargil and decision is revoked the situation will be different. It is about me and future of those people who are protesting here today. Another protest said "Give it to Leh district if you want to, but then let Kargil remain part of Kashmir division. This is absolute injustice, and we will not accept this. The decision must be reviewed, and the headquarters should be on six-month rotation". The leaders are demanding rotational headquarters. |
