Jammu, Mar 2: As part of Biodiversity Awareness for younger minds , Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar organized Avian Talk interaction . The guest lecture was organized in the Department of Zoology, P.G. College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu where more than 100 Biomedical students interacted with learned speaker . The resource person Dr. O. P. Sharma Vidyarthi (IFS), Director, State Forest Research Institute, J&K delivered a lecture on the topic, "Feathered Friends of Man "giving an insight into very interesting and fascinating facts about the Feathered Bipeds. Talking about Hornbills ,Barbrts ,Green pigeons , Flamingos, Drongos, Treepies ,Magpies , Parakeets ,Orioles, Cranes, Finches ,Waders, raptors, waterfowl ,pheasants ,flower peckers ,Sunbirds ,Weaver birds ,Birds of paradise ,Indian cuckoos ,Indian Rollers ,Woodpeckers ,Tailor birds ,Bower birds ,flightless birds ,bustards & Floricans ,O P Sharma Vidyarthi highlighted habits & habitats of surrounding avian diversity ,ecological adaptations ,nesting requirements ,feeding behaviours ,people's connectivity ,reasons for habitat degradation and need for conservation of wilderness habitats including specific food , feeding, nesting trees like Babool, Semal, Rhododendrons , Red silk cotton trees , Figs, Monkey face trees and other flowering trees used by birds. |
