Mehbooba & Omar berate repressive policies being followed by centre
3/21/2019 10:26:49 PM
Had not Mehbooba Mufti been the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir she would have been excused for berating the repressive policies of the central Government. And when she was the Chief Minister she did nothing to check the centre from following repressive policies in Jammu and Kashmir. She is right when a militant dies in police custody she points out the basic idea behind the youth in Kashmir picking up guns.Former chief minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti has said that Government of India's "repressive approach" was forcing Kashmiri youth to pick up arms. She was reacting over death of a youth from Pulwama district in Police custody in Srinagar.
"She is wrong the man who died in police custody was not a civilians but had joined militancy. This way he cannot be treated as innocent "Innocent men hauled up from their homes for interrogation return home only in coffins now," Mehbooba wrote on Twitter. She said "Central Government's repressive approach leaves young educated men vulnerable who are forced to take up arms." "Stop using Kashmir to exhibit your sick chauvinistic nationalism. We have suffered enough," the former chief minister wrote. A youth identified as Rizwan Asad of Awantipora in Pulwama died in police custody in Srinagar during the intervening night of 18 and 19 March. Rizwan was not an innocent person but was picked up in case of Lethpora armed attack that left 40 CRPF personnel martyred. The deceased was a private school teacher and was detained by forces in connection with the Lethpora attack case three days ago, reports said. The police department has requested a magisterial inquiry under Section 176 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to ascertain the cause and circumstances leading to Rizwan's death. A separately police investigation has also been initiated into the incident.
Even the, National Conference vice president and former chief minister, Omar Abdullah termed the Pulwama youth's custodial death as 'unacceptable'. He said the incident must be "investigated in transparent manner. This way both Mehbooba and Omar were trying to seek votes during the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and the ultimate Assembly poll. Instead of finding the details of the investigation in which Rizwan died both the former Chief Ministers were securing public support so as to regain power and help their organizations to win a couple of seats during the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Whether during the time Omar Abdullah was the Chief Minister or for that matter Mehbooba headed the coalition Government, they never tried to persuade the centre to end its repressive policies which feeds the terror units in the valley.
