Informed about fresh terror threats, Raj Bhawan makes ET more vulnerable to attacks
3/25/2019 12:23:13 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 24: The Raj Bhawan has withdrawn the security of editor of the daily Early Times exactly after the government was informed about the fresh threats from the global terror networks who had been threatening the newspaper.
Some time back, this nationalist newspaper had formally written a letter to the Jammu and Kashmir Police about having received fresh threats from terror outfits.
"Apart from the local terrorists or those based in Pakistan, we had received threats from the international terror groups, who had even sent us death warrants from the US and the police was informed about the same," said a senior functionary at the newspaper based in Jammu.
The threat calls had been warning the newspaper not to report against the terrorists and separatists and that any further reportage would have deadly consequences for the daily.
But not comprising on the nationalist agenda, the newspaper continues to expose the terror networks and their proxies in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
But as the ET equally fights against corruption and favoritism in the state and has been rigorously exposing the rot in the system, those involved in such shady activities have been out to suppress this newspaper.
While previously it was mainly the regional parties from Kashmir, who during their regimes would ask the administration to muzzle Early Times as it happens to be the voice of the Dogra people, during the regime of Governor SP Malik, the Raj Bhawan seems to be upholding the same agenda of safeguarding the corrupt faces.
"The government being formally informed about threat from terror groups is not a simple issue because threat from terrorists often means destruction but instead of beefing up the security cover, the government has made our lives more vulnerable," the ET functionary said.
He said the newspaper had been working in accordance with the iconic mantra of Prime Minister Narendar Modi who lives up to his slogan "Na Khawunga Na Khane Dunga."
"Our basic fight is against corruption and terrorism. But the way things are unfolding the corrupt are making us vulnerable to terror attacks," said a senior editor at the ET.
It is pertinent to mention that Early Times editor is the only journalist from Jammu whose security has been withdrawn.
The Raj Bhawan's apparent bias towards the newspaper writing against corruption can be gauged from the fact that even little known journalists continue to enjoy more security than ET.
Meanwhile the newspaper called a meeting of its editorial wherein it was resolved that onus of any attack on the ET would lie on the government.
