| Village Guards Union seeks class-IV pays | | HC directs petitioners to file representation | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 24 In a petition filed by Provincial Village Guards Union seeking pay-scale for the Village Guards/Chowkidars, as has been given to Class-IV employees of the State, Justice Nirmal Singh of J&K High Court Jammu Wing, keeping in view of prevalent inflation rates of essential commodities, directed the petitioners to file representations before the respondents in this regard. The respondents filed objection through AAG AH Qazi stating that recently the respondents have enhanced the honorarium to village guards/chowkidars from Rs 225/- to Rs 500 per month and the remuneration of the Village Guards have been extended from time to time, however, it is not possible to treat Village Guard and Chowkidars at par with Class-IV employees as they are elected representatives of the Village and not the Govt employees. Court after perusal of the record observed that this not the case where respondents can be directed to treat the Village Guards/ Chowkidars at par with class IV employees of the state Govt and release the same pay-scale in favour as has been given to such employees. Keeping in view the prevalent inflation rates of essential commodities, it is thought apt to direct the petitioner to file representation before the respondents in this regard. In case such representation is filed same shall be decided by the respondents within a period of one month from the date of its filling by passing speaking orders. The petitioner shall be at liberty to place any material before respondents and such material shall be considered by the respondents while passing speaking orders, Court observed. JNF |
