Babu Permanand dies at 76
Demise widely mourned, Advani, Sinha, Azad pay tributes

One of the senior most political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir and former Haryana Governor Babu Permanand passed away after an illness here today. He was 76.
Creating a vacuum in the state’s political space, Babu’s death came in as a deep shock for all cutting across the party lines. The ideological lines blurred as leaders from entire political spectrum mourned the demise –such was popularity of Babu Permanand.
On the sad demise of Babu Parmanand, government announced state mourning on April 24 and ordered holiday in the government offices and educational institutions.
The National and State Flags remained fly on half mast today on all buildings and places where these are flown.
Immediately after getting to know about the sad incident, the former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani accompanied by senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar rushed in to Jammu to pay their last tributes to Babu.
Advani expressed sorrow over the sad demise of Babu Parmanand and expressed their sympathies with the family members of the departed soul. Advani ji described Babu Parmanand as a hard working, committed, honest and clean-imaged personality who, with the dint of his work, reached to such a post, where a common man can dream only.
State Governor S K Sinha visited the resident of the deceased leader and laid a wreath on the mortal remains of Babu Parmanand. The Governor expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. He said that the departed leader worked tirelessly during his public life in the State for the uplift of poor and down trodden segments of the society.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of prominent political Babu Parmanand. The Chief Minister visited the residence of the departed leader to pay last respects to him and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
The Chief Minister paid rich tributes to late Babu Parmanand and recalled his contribution as an elected representative, minister and Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly. He described him as a nice politician who will be remembered for long by people. In the evening, Azad also attended the funeral of the late leader.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association Jammu today in its emergent meeting chaired by its President BS Salathia suspended the work for the day in the Courts in connection with said demise of Babu Parmanand. The President Bar Association BS Salathia paid rich tribute and disclosed that Babu Ji was member of Bar Association Jammu and he always sympathizer of Jammu Bar. In the meeting two minutes silence was observed. Due to the work suspended by the Bar Association, the work in the High Court of Jammu Wing was suffered
National Conference Patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah and President Omar Abdullah also expressed deep shock over the sad demise of Babu Parmanand. Recalling the contribution of the deceased veteran leader in ameliorating the condition of people of the state, Dr Abdullah said that Babu, through out his life worked for the welfare of the people.
He said that, his service to the society would be remembered by coming generations for a long time.
Paying rich tributes to the departed leader, NC president Omar Abdullah also highlighted the contribution of deceased leader and said that he always raised the issues pertaining to downtrodden lot of society at every forum.
Party General Sectary Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, Advocate has also expressed sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Senior National Conference leader and former finance minister, Abdul Rehim Rather has expressed his grief and sorrow over the demise of the veteran leader and said "Babu Ji fought for the cause of down trodden people of the society through out his long political career".
