Narwal yard still untouched by SBA
Streets turn into toilets and dumping yards, authorities mum

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 13: The prestigious Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan of Prime Minister Narender Modi as well as the Smart City project for Jammu has so far failed to touch the Narwal yard, where streets have been turned into toilets and dumping yards under the nose of authorities.
The local shopkeepers informed Early Times that the 6th lane of Narwal Yard number 6 has turned into a toilet and public urinal. "In between 2, 3rd and 4th yard there is not toilet facility while the one toilet complex is near the State Bank of India building, which is nearly 400-500 meters from these yards", a local shopkeeper said, adding that in absence of the toilet, the common visitors used to urinate in the lane.
The shopkeepers further said that even the drivers of trucks and vehicles, who stayed in their vehicles during night also answered the nature call in the sixth lane, making it impossible to even pass through the stinking lane.
"No dustbins are placed there so the shopkeepers throw the garbage, wastage into the lane, making it a virtual dumping yard", the shopkeepers rued, adding that for the last over two years they have been appealing the authorities to clear the garbage and ensure regular sweeping but all in vain.
"The Narwal yard was developed nearly 18 years back but since then no shopkeeper was deputed there and even roads are in dilapidated condition", the shopkeepers said, and lambasted the authorities for paying no heed.
Locals further said that whenever they took up the matter with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) they passed the buck to Jammu Development Authority. "The JDA in turn claimed that all the building maps and designs of the area have been passed by JMC and also charged fee but when it comes to clean the area, they put the blame of JDA", they said, adding that the area has been caught in between fight of two departments, none of which was ready to accept it, despite thumping their back for observing Swatchta Pakhwara.
Commissioner JMC who also holds the charge of Vice Chairman JDA, Vikas Sharma's phone was switched off.
