LAKHANPUR, Apr 17: Vigilant sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post, Lakhanpur in a successful operation foiled an attempt of Tax evaders to smuggle a cache of 6 Boxes of Cigarettes outside the State being carried in a Car bearing Registration No. PB35AE-5689. Cigarettes attract Toll Tax at the rate of Rs.4000/- per quintal and evaders tried to hoodwink the Toll authorities by concealing the Cigarettes Boxes in Light Motor Vehicle (Car) which is exempted from payment of Toll Tax.
The vehicle was intercepted and seized at the Export Weighbridges of the Toll Post and a recovery of Rs.48400/- on account of Toll and Penalty leviable under section 8 and 13 of J&K Levy of Toll Act, 1995 was made from the vehicle. The whole operation was supervised by Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post, Lakhanpur and carried out by Excise and Taxation Officer Sandeep Gupta along with team of Inspector, Saleem Malik, Sub-Inspector, Raghunandan Mishra and Excise Guard, Nihal Singh. M Raju, IAS, Excise Commissioner, J&K applauded the sustained enforcement efforts of the Toll Post and enjoined the Excise officials to work with same zeal and enthusiasm in the future also. |
