MHA directs SF to remain alert for Srinagar parliamentary polls | Won't spare trouble makers: Police | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad
Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 17: The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the security agencies in Kashmir valley to remain alert ahead of polling day tomorrow for Srinagar Parliamentary seat. The alert has reportedly been issued in anticipation of a possible threat. Top sources of MHA told early TIMES that security forces have been asked to remain alert tomorrow "The MHA has asked the police to keep all the police stations on alert in Srinagar and other poll bound areas to prevent supporters of separatist leaders from creating an adverse law and order situation," sources quoting MHA said. The MHA has said that the militant outfits have been asked by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to create trouble on the polling days in the valley. "For the security agencies, the top priority during poll days would be to create a favourable atmosphere to enable electoral officials to go about their duties without hindrance, and to allow the electorate to cast their votes peacefully, "the alert said. Sources said that the MHA had gathered intelligence from the security agencies in region to the effect that, certain groups had planned to cause trouble at polling stations in their localities. Meanwhile police said that they are determined to make the ground safe for a successful poll and would, therefore, not spare any persons who try to disrupt the orderly conduct of the exercise."I advise them not to even think about it because they would regret a lot if they attempt disrupting the proceedings," one of the top police officials of the state police said. The official said that special security arrangements had been made to contain any insurgence at noted flash-point areas, and urged people in those areas not to entertain any fears, but to go about the voting exercise with confidence, knowing that the full force of the security agencies was behind them. He said that security forces are deployed for smooth conduct of by-polls to parliamentary seats in the Valley. The top police official did not rule out that militants and trouble mongers may disrupt peace on polling days. Election authorities here also said that they are ready for the polling day. "All necessary preparations and security arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the elections," Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Shalinder Kumar said. Sources said that in the light of the vulnerable situation, authorities will deploy several companies of police, paramilitary CRPF in Srinagar and other districts to ensure smooth and incident-free polls. Almost all the polling stations were taken over on Wednesday by the CRPF men, sources said . |
