Jammu, Apr 21: The three-day long Phoenix MUN which commenced on 19th April at Birla Open Minds International School, Jammu, consummated today. The event had around 250 delegates from different schools of J&K, and NCR. The conference was basically to enhance the verbal skills and critical analysis of the students Six committees were formed which deliberated and debated on the topics - 'Combating International Insurgencies with special reference to the Kashmir issue', 'Reforms in the UN Council', 'Combating Global Terrorism, with special reference to ISIS & Al Qaeda, 'International Press Corps' & 'Special Indian Emergency Committee', 'Historic Committee:1947' and 'Rights of Women in Conflict & Post-Conflict areas'. The delegates experienced the working of an actual UN session in which many motions were presented and debated. The six committees ended their session by passing resolutions after debates on their topics. This was followed by prize distribution in which GD Goenka School bagged the first position, whereas, Birla Open Minds International School, Jammu stood second. The closing ceremony was presided over by Principal of the School, Mr. J.S Hundal, who gave away prizes to the winners. In his addressal of the gathering, he appreciated all the delegates for a wonderful presentation of their thoughts. He motivated the students to be well informed about the current affairs & emphasized the importance of acquiring communication skills, diplomacy, good team work, negotiation skills and also learning about world history and how it has shaped the world as we see it today. The event was coordinated by Rayees Khanday TGT Social Science of BOMIS Jammu with the assistance of other faculty members of the school. |
