GOI, Guv Administration make mockery of democracy in J&K: Harsh 5/1/2019 11:46:05 PM Early Times Report Jammu, May 1: With no decision taken with regard to holding of Assembly Elections in J&K even in fifth consecutive meeting of ECI, Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and Former Minister today said that the GOI and State Govt had made the most contemptuous mockery of democracy in the state. Never before in the history of the state have such kind of theatrics been played in the name of Elections, said Singh. And never have the elections been delayed on such frivolous excuses as advanced by the state and central govt to ECI, he said. He maintained that such meetings seemed to be conducted as a window dressing for the gullible, an exercise to befool the masses. "The fact of the matter was that neither the GOI nor the Governor's administration wanted to hold the Assembly Elections in the state. While the centre wanted to rule the state by proxy, the state administration did not want to give up having tasted the fruits of power, he observed. He was addressing a press conference in Jammu today. Urging upon the ECI to ensure restoration of popular govt in the state at the earliest, Singh said that the people could not be deprived of their democratic rights and constitutional guarantees on flimsy grounds. He said that it was ridiculous that Elections were sought to be postponed and denied by taking the plea of Ramzan, Amar Nath Ji pilgrimage, tourist season, migration of nomads, rainy season etc which had never happened before in the history of state. He said that Democracy could not be made captive to whims of rulers and elections could not be denied only to suit the political expediencies of the ruling parties.
