Student protests put security agencies to alert | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 14: The protests by student community against the rape of a three year old girl in Bandipora district has put the security forces on alert, informed sources told Early Times. With protests taking place almost everywhere in the valley from Islamic University in south Kashmir to Kashmir University in central Kashmir, the security agencies are understood to have cautioned the government about the fallouts of such a development at the start of summer. On Tuesday when violent protests erupted at some colleges in Srinagar, the government started getting inputs that such protests could "put Kashmir in state of another hot summer of protests." Sources said the security agencies have inputs that some anti-national forces backed by Pakistan could try to hijack the issue of rape for their vested interests to spread pro-Pakistan sentiment. "There are inputs that protests against this incident (rape) may fuel anti national protests and that is something that needs to be seriously taken care of," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. Sources said the Raj Bhawan has decided to call a high level meeting that is expected to chaired by the Governor SP Malik himself to take stock of the situation. Sources said a strategy will decided at the said meeting on tackling prevalent situation in the valley in the wake of the rape in Sumbal area of Bandipora district. It is pertinent to mention that dozens of civilians and around 50 security force jawans have already been injured in the last few days of violent protests against the rape. "Such protests are only indicating that some forces are trying to hijack it and such a development is just for feasible for peace and prosperity," said the official. Despite repeated attempts the concerned couldn't be contacted for comments. |
