Prof Gupta hails BJP victory | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 24: Voicing his joy over the big victory of nationalism in the Lok Sabha elections, the former union minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta hoped that many wrongs inflicted to the patriotic people of J&K would be rectified and this state would be treated like other parts of the country. In a statement, Prof Gupta pointed out that an Indian soldier from outside comes to defend the frontiers and fight the cross border terror as also render all out helping hand to the people of J&K, but it was an irony that he cannot get even an inch of land for him and his children even after his martyrdom. Even the President of India cannot buy a piece of land on the soil of the State but for separate status granted under Article 370 of the constitution. About the plight of the minorities in the valley of Kashmir, Prof Gupta said that one can understand the cleanse of minorities in the theocratic Pakistan held areas of the State but it was big question on the sincerity of those parties and their leaders who claim to be secular but in the times of their rule, both the Congress and National Conference, the minorities were ill-treated Prof Gupta said while the authorities at the centre would pay due attention to this problem, they could visualize the gravity of the problem that in the 17th Lok Sabha three members from Kashmir Valley having secured just about 4 lakhs of votes and just 2 members from Jammu Region who having secured more than 15 Lakh votes. This lack of due representation to Jammu and Ladakh is one of the major causes adversely affecting the polity of this complex State, he added. Prof Gupta; said that there were numerous other problems engulfing the life in the border state of J&K which needed early attention by the new government with a nationalistic outlook. |
