Programme to commemorate valour of Gen Zorawar singh organized | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 10: Dharam Jagran Samanvey (DJS) in collaboration with Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K commemorated the valour of great warrior General Zorawar Singh here today at Teachers Bhavan Gandhi Nagar. It may be mentioned here that General Zorawar Singh was one of the greatest warriors of Indian subcontinent. He was subordinate of Maharaja Gulab Singh. The great General was born in 1784 in a Hindu (Rajput) family of village Ansar in Himachal Pradesh. His family later migrated to Jammu region. General Zorawar Singh was employed by ambitious Raja Gulab Singh and placed under command of Reasi Fort. He conquered Padder area which was part of Himachal Pradesh and annexed it with J&K State. Gulab Singh then appointed Zorawar Singh as Hakim of Kishtwar which was a gateway of Himalayas kingdom of Ladakh. After annexing Ladakh, General Zorawar Singh turned his attention to Baltistan. He organized force of Ladakh and captured Skardu without much fight. General Zorawar Singh under took his last and final campaign against Tibet which turned out to be fatal for him and disastrous for the Dogra Expansion Plan. He attained martyrdom in 1841 in Tibet. On the occasion, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member Parliament was the chief guest while B S Slathia, ex-President Bar Association J&K High Court Jammu and Rakesh Kumar, president Dharam Jagram Samanvey, Uttar Pradesh, were the guests of honour. Narayan Singh, president Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K and Rakesh Kumar, president Dharam Jagran Samanvey honoured Jugal Kishore Sharma and B S Slathia. |
