Since one Major in the Army has been killed and two more injured security has been fully tighened across the Srinagar-Jammu highway in order to ensure safety of the Amarnath pilgrims. Security forces have been put on "highest alert" in Jammu ahead of the Amarnath yatra following reports of militants planning to target the pilgrimage. The 46-day Amarnath Yatra to the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva in the south Kashmir Himalayas will begin on June 30. Security has been beefed up and an extensive and a foolproof plan has been prepared by the security forces to ward off any threats," a source said, adding that all vehicles entering the Bhagwati Nagar area of Jammu city - the base camp of Yatra - were being checked thoroughly, while additional deployment had been made at all sensitive points". The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Tejinder Singh said, "We have made foolproof arrangements for the yatra with sufficient deployments of forces. We are also working in close coordination with all agencies. All necessary precautions have been put in place.
It is almost a battle between the security forces and the militants. As far as various spots in south Kashmir on the boil because of regular militancy related violence the security forces have decided to deploy in sufficient forces in the areas of south Kashmir because major part of the yatris have to cross the South Kashmir areas to reached Pahalgam which is the base for the yatra. And if any yatri was attacked it would give bad name to the Governor and the establishment. Hence the security forces have been advised to remain on a high alert so that militants do not venture any attack on the yatris.
Right from Bhagwati Nagar to Pahalgam and Baltal the yatris may be taken under the cover of security convoys and on the Jammu-Srinagar highway various security camps have been established so that in case of demand the security camps could meet the challenge from the militants. In fact it is conflict between the wits of the security forces and the militants. Separatists wish that there were disturbances during the yatra which may give a bad name to the Governor and his establishment. Security agencies and the intelligence agencies have been deployed in strength to find some matter which would be prejudicial to the security of the state.
