Through abrogating Art 370, Amit Shah focuses on Gujjars-Bakerwals | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 5: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah today made it clear that BJP is going to lure Gujjars and Bakerwals to expand its footprints in Kashmir Valley before coming elections. While speaking in Rajya Sabha before voting of bills this evening, Amit Shah especially mentioned that Scheduled Tribes (STs) were worst victims of Article 370. "These STs are Muslim Gujjars", he said while mentioning towards Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had accused BJP to playing religious card in abrogation of Article 370. It is strategy of BJP to expand its footprint in the Valley, with special focus on the Scheduled Tribes (STs) dominated pockets. Recenly a special meeting was convened at Srinagar to give a message that party was very serious to expand its footprints in the Valley. After winning both the Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province and lone Parliamentary seat of Ladakh, party's focus now is on the Valley to improve its tally in the coming assembly elections", a senior leader said, adding, " We have identified over a dozen constituencies in Kashmir Valley where party has potential to win elections". Party has made a blue-print to focus on Scheduled Tribes (STs) dominated belts of the Valley before the Assembly elections. Party has reason to target nomadic people because except BJP no other party has raised the demand of granting political reservation to STs, like other parts of the country. STs-comprising Muslim Gujjars and Bakerwals, are a deciding factor in nearly a dozen assembly segments of Kashmir Valley so BJP has decided to focus on this community, agitating to get political reservation. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections BJP had managed to get only 22750 votes in three seats but the party has now devised a strategy to target some communities to expand its base. |
