Orientation programme organized by IIMC concludes | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 30: A three-day orientation programme organized by Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Jammu for new batch of journalism students concluded today. Senior journalist and former Bureau Chief of Aaj Tak/TV Today, Ashwani Kumar delivered an interactive lecture on reporting from conflict areas like Jammu and Kashmir this morning. He dwelt on various aspects of reporting stories from conflict zones particularly from the International border and line of control in Jammu and Kashmir. Supporting his lecture with visuals of live encounters with terrorists, Ashwani Kumar said journalists should take care of their own security first while covering such events so that they are not harmed. He also stressed on objectivity in reporting and strengthening of news sources. Every story must be verified from at least three sources, he added. In his welcome address, Regional Director of Jammu campus, Manohar Khajuria underlined the need of such lectures by the experts from mass communication fraternity to acquaint the budding journalists about the nitty gritty of this profession. In the earlier orientation lecture, former bureaucrat and Director Information, K B Jandial shared experience of his journalistic career. While stressing the need for the objectivity, unbiased and fair reporting of the events, he desired some flexibility to the reasonable extent while handling the law and order / security of the state / country by the government. |
