Govt to setup free STD booths across Kashmir, sale of postpaid connections increase | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 16: As prepaid mobile phone and internet services remain suspended for 73rd day on Wednesday, the government has announced to open free STD booths across Kashmir valley, where sale of postpaid connections has witnessed increase by many folds since the service was restored on Monday. However, SMS service was again suspended hours after postpaid mobile phone connectivity was restored after remaining suspended since August 5, when the Centre scrapped Article 370 and Article 35 A, besides dividing the state into two union territories. The Governor administration suspended landlines, mobile and internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) as a precautionary measure. However, landlines were restored in a phased manner in the valley after more than a month. Officials said that the government has decided to setup STD booths across Kashmir valley, where people would be able to make phone calls free of cost to their relatives and friends in the state and rest of the country. According to data, about 40 lakh postpaid mobile phone connections were made operational from Monday in the valley, bringing much needed relief to the people and security force personnel, who were able to contact their families. About 37 lakh prepaid mobile phone connections remain suspended since August 5 in the valley, where gag on broadband and mobile internet continued for the 73 day on Wednesday. |
