Srinagar-Jammu highway reopens, only stranded vehicles allowed | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 18: Only stranded vehicles were allowed to ply on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which reopened on Friday evening after remaining closed since early this morning due to landslides triggered at various places following incessant overnight rain. A traffic police official told UNI that the highway was closed for all vehicular traffic since early Friday morning due to landslides at Digdol and adjoining areas, triggered by incessant rain following over night incessant rain. ''Due to the closure of the highway, hundreds of vehicles were stranded at various places,'' he said. However, he said Border Road Organization (BRO), responsible for maintenance of the national highway, pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides. ''The landslides were cleared and the road was reopened for traffic,'' he said, adding that only stranded vehicles were allowed to ply on the highway. He said once the stranded vehicles are cleared, fresh traffic will be allowed to ply on the highway. |
