DDC celebrates birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh

jammu, Oct 21: Dogra Degree College Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, Jammu organized a function to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir.
The celebrations began with paying of floral tribute to Maharaja Gulab Singh by all the staff & the students of Dogra group of Colleges in the college auditorium. The Portrait of Maharaja was garlanded by the Chief Guest.
To mark the day a guest Lecture on the topic "Contribution of Maharaja Gulab Singh in formation of J&K" by Dr. Jigar Mohammed, Prof. & Dean, Research Studies Centre, University of Jammu was organized. Sharing a historic brief the resource person described the circumstances leading to the coronation of Maharaja Gulab Singh.
The historic ceremony took place in a small village called Jeo Pota in Akhnoor along the banks of river Chenab with a desire that may the Dogra ruler's roots go deep down amongst his people and he remains firmly grounded. Further elaborating he added that this marked the beginning of perhaps one of the greatest territorial conquests of princely India in modern times and Maharaja Gulab Singh then rapidly consolidated his position in the Jammu hills with the help of his army that largely consisted of Dogras from Jammu region.
Earlier a essay writing competition was organized on 17th Oct 2019 under the NSS Banner of Dogra Degree College on the topics : 1. Life History and the advent of Maharaja Gulab Singh, 2. Gulab Singh and the creation of Dogra state of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh, 3. Achievements & Contributions of Maharaja Gulab Singh. Madhvi of 1st Sem (B.COM), Monika Manhas of 1st Sem (B.COM), Harsh Bhagat of 3rd Sem (B.A) from Dogra Degree College; Neeraj Angurana of 3rd Sem (B.ed), Shivani Choudhary 3rd Sem (B.ed), Manisha Kumari 3rd Sem (B.ed); Rounaq Bali of 5th Sem (BA LLB 5 Yrs), Hummera Firdous of 1st Sem (BA LLB 5 Yrs), Abhishek Sharma 1st Sem (BA LLB) from Dogra Law College were appreciated for their efforts. Certificates were also distributed to best three entries from each college under Dogra Educational Trust.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Kr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, Col. Kamal Padha, Director, Dogra Educational Trust, Principal, Dogra Degree College, Principal, Dogra College of Education & Principal, Dogra Degree College, and staff members of the college.
