Rich Harvest students visit Botanical gardens | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 22: Around 150 students and staff of Rich Harvest school, Bari Brahmana visited the prestigious botanical gardens and geology museum of Jammu university on 21st Oct. 2019. the visit was organised in connection with the British council -ISA , Activity on Flora and Fauna of India. The children were given a guided tour of the gardens, where they were explained in detail about the medicinal properties of some plants. An endangered plant, "GAJAR MULLA" was the highlight of the tour as children were told about why it was in danger of extinction and what measures could be taken to preserve such species. The herbarium cum museum in the gardens was the next stop where artifacts made up of different parts of many plants were on display. Wadia museum of Natural History was a sight for sore eyes. the largest mammoth skull of an elephant was showcased which was discovered in 2000 in Pampore area of kashmir valley which is still a mystery as elephants were never inhabitants of that area. Dr. Harish , Prof. Harpreet and Curator Nitin Kumar were the main guides on the tour. |
