Advisor Khan take stock of developmental scenario at Kupwara

KUPWARA, OCTOBER 23: Advisor to Governor, Farooq Khan today visited frontier district of Kupwara and convened a meeting to review progress of various ongoing developmental projects here.

Secretary, Agriculture Production, Manzoor Ahmad Lone, District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Anshul Garg, Chief Engineer JKPCC, Directors of Horticulture, Agriculture, RDD, Education, Social Welfare and other concerned attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Advisor directed the officers to work with added dedication and in close coordination for accomplishing various projects under execution in the district. He stressed for involving youth of the district in government sponsored schemes for generating self employment.

During his visit, Advisor also inaugurated four-storied REW building at Kupwara that has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.519.71 lakh.

The Advisor said that the district has a huge potential to produce quality horticultural, agricultural and apicultural products. He directed concerned Chief Agricultural Officer to involve youth in establishing honey processing units in the district. He said that better marketing and branding of products would help increase farmers’ income.

Advisor Khan directed officers to conduct awareness camps across the district and indentify land in far-flung areas for building up requisite infrastructure and high-density plantation.

He further directed the officers to focus on integrated development for making model villages across the district.

On the occasion, Advisor Khan was briefed in detail about the physical and financial achievements registered under various sectors including PHE, PDD, R&B, JKPCC, RDD and Education.

He was also informed that the administration has achieved various goals under Aspirational, languishing projects and other Central and State sponsored schemes.

The meeting was told that various languishing projects have been completed and work on other is apace. It was given out that work on 10 projects costing Rs.768.47 lakh is going on which includes bridges, bypass road, installation of Gensets at SDH Kupwara and civil helipads.

Advisor Khan was informed that the district administration has achieved various milestones in beautification of Kupwara town which includes installation of street lights, construction of road dividers, installation of dustbins, and construction of drinking water points. Besides work on Tourist Reception Centre at Teetwal, Sheep Husbandry Unit at Cherkoot is in full swing.

It was also said that adequate stock of essential commodities has already been dumped in the border areas of Karnah, Keran, Machil, Jumgund, Kumkadi and Budnamal.

Advisor Khan appreciated the district administration for successful implementation of various development programmes and directed the officers to be prompt in addressing issues and grievances of the general public on priority.
