Academic Arrangement Teachers seek justice | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 20: Academic Arrangement Teacher Association (AATA) stage protest rally against the move of government for converting all academic arrangement teachers into the need-based teachers, terming it as cruel joke with the highly qualified teachers working in degree colleges of J&K. They mentioned that Government Order 472-HE of 2019 dated August 23, 2019 restrained them from performing duties comprised of teaching, extracurricular activities, sports, examinations, internal assessments, and evaluation etc., and disrupted their services. "We have been working for long period on meager salaries. Now, the Department of Higher Education is hatching the conspiracy for disengaging all of us from the jobs and our strength is approximately 2,500 throughout the Union Territory of J&K," they said. One of the protesting lecturer said, "She is serving the department for the last seven years. The order issued by Higher Education Department has created resentment among the contractual lecturers." "This order deprives us to earn our livelihood and live life with dignity. We have been brought down to the level of need-based labourers," another teacher said. The association members appealed to the Lt Governor of J&K UT to revoke aforesaid order at the earliest for welfare of teachers. They also demanded that the salaries of Academic Arrangement Teachers should be according to the Basic Pay given in other Union Territories of the country. |
