Jammu, Nov 21: An Interactive session on Veganism to commemmorate World Vegan Month was organised by the Office of Dean Students Welfare in the Schools of Humanities &Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Cluster University of Jammu on Thursday. Malvika Kalra, an ardent Animal Liberation Activist was the Resource person on the occasion. Dr. Bhopinder Singh, Dean Sciences and Dr. Geetanjali A. Rana Dean Humanities and Liberal Arts were the Guests of Honor. Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare welcomed the Resource Person to the students of integrated programs of Sciences, English Honors and Linguistics. Malvika Kalra, Resource Person dwelt on the need for veganism in modern society for a long healthy and Sustainable life. She talked about the notion and hurdles prevalent in the society against Veganism and exhorted that animals are genetically manipulated and harmed to cater to the daily consumer in India as it is among the highest dairy consumers and Beef producers in the world. She added that plant-based diets reduce the intake of Saturated fat, trans fats and Cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease, Cancers and are useful in controlling diabetes, blood pressure adding years to life expectancy. The students attended a session with full enthusiasm and showed their interest in the concept of Veganism. |
