Anantnag residents protest against inflated power bills | | | Early Times Report
Anantnag, Jan 18: Hundreds of people on Saturday held strong protests against Power Development Department for serving them ‘inflated power bills’. Protesters including men and women hailing from different areas of Anantnag including Anchidora, Chee, Anzwala and other adjacent areas of Anantnag town gathered on Kahnabal-Pahalgam road Anantnag and held protests against the Power Development Department. Protesters raised slogan against the department and blocked the movement of vehicular traffic on Khanabal-Pahalgam road for hours together. They alleged that department had served them inflated bills despite their areas being metered. “Our areas have been metered by the PDD department long ago but we fail to understand how the department has sent us bill according to flat rate,” protesters alleged. They said that each of them have been asked to deposit Rs. 1500 and Rs. 2000 without any justification. “Most of the time the PDD lines remain under fault and we hardly get enough electricity during winters and the department has shamelessly sent huge bills,” they said, adding that they will not pay inflated power bills. |
